This is funny, but when you're actually a developer, this isn't funny at all. One can spend hundreds of hours writing great software only to have the user want it free. Devs do need food too!

TweetDeck Warns Of Fake Update, Trojan
As we mentioned earlier today, some third-party Twitter applications may stop working because Twitter has made some big changes this morning regarding how other applications and websites gain access to your Twitter account. Unfortunately, some unfriendly types out there have tried to take advantage of the situation with a fake Tweetdeck update that is actually a trojan horse virus.
Tweetdeck posted a warning on its blog yesterday about the fake update, but today will be the real test, as many of us go searching for the real update.

If you're seeing what I'm seeing this morning (see above), the only place to go is to the official Tweetdeck website. According to Tweetdeck, there are a number of tweets getting passed around urging users to update to the latest version of Tweetdeck. While many do need to update, the only place users should go to download this update is http://www.tweetdeck.com/desktop/. The tweets about the fake update link to a file named "tweetdeck-08302010-update.exe" and often are from the URL http://alturl.com. The Tweetdeck blog warns that many of the suspect tweets include the following:
TweetDeck will work until tomorrow, udate now!
1.Download TweetDeck udate ASAP!
2.Update TweetDeck!
3.Hurry up for tweetdeck update!
4.Sorry for offtopic, but it is a critical TweetDeck update. It won't work tomorrow!
Trend Micro researcher Paul Ferguson told Network World that the file is "a generic Trojan horse program that is not detected by most antivirus products", so installing the fake update could be harmful and go completely unnoticed.

You or Me
ShareI often wonder how we attain fulfillment through Social Media. Its an interesting question, and how you answer truly hinders on which school of thought you belong to. Either you immerse yourself in Social Media for yourself. Or you immerse yourself in Social Media for others. Personally, I belong to the former but can understand [...]

Pogoplug adds printing support, wireless adapter and Biz start shipping
Neat little update for Pogoplug owners today: the latest firmware update adds printing support, allowing iPhones, Android devices, and anything else that can hit the diminutive home server's web interface to print files. Any HP or Epson printer from 2005 or later is supported over USB -- network printers just need to be on the same network -- and the firmware is rolling out now. Pogoplug is also shipping that 802.11 b/g/n wireless adapter it announced earlier this month today, as well as the more enterprise-focused Pogoplug Biz. We're also told the new firmware will enable some other features, but there's no breakdown yet -- we'll let you know when we find out. PR after the break.Continue reading Pogoplug adds printing support, wireless adapter and Biz start shippingPogoplug adds printing support, wireless adapter and Biz start shipping originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 31 Aug 2010 12:01:00 EDT. I've had a vision and I can't shake it: Colbert needs to hold a satirical rally in DC.
I was woken in the middle of the night by this(along with the sound of my cat getting ready to pee on the rug). Think about it. It'll be just like Colbert's mockery of GW Bush at the 2006 White House Correspondent's Dinner, but 500,000 people will be able to participate with him. We'll all stay totally in character as teabaggers. The kid with the microphone that interviews all the idiots at these things can come by and we'll ramble into his microphone. This would be the high water mark of American satire. Half a million people pretending to suspend all rational thought in unison. Perfect harmony. It'll feel like San Francisco in the late 60s, only we won't be able to get any acid. I know you're out there somewhere, Stephen, watching LOLcat gifs along side us. We need you. There's no way to have a logical public discussion with the teabaggers. The best we can do is to mimic them. Show them a mirror and hopefully some will realize how ridiculous they actually are... Or maybe they won't even realize that they're being mocked, which could be even more awesome. Note: This is a repost. First one never popped into New. submitted by mrsammercer to politics [link] [8 comments]

As a black man, it bothers me when white people avert their gaze too quickly or give some other indication that they're nervous, but not in the way you'd think. I feel GUILTY for making them nervous, like it was my fault, or something. Any advice?
